A DOUBLE substitution after 75 minutes helped break the deadlock for Haxby and Wigginton in their York Leeper Hare League division two clash against Stillington.

Tony Lairds and Danny Rhodes both came on for the hosts and, with just two minutes left on the clock, a Lairds cross caused confusion in the Stillington defence and Rhodes pounced to score the only goal of the game.

Andy Oldfield scored both Hemingbrough's goals as they overcame Poppleton 2-1, veteran "Bammer" Bainbridge heading Poppleton's goal.

Heslington's new signing, Danny Walters, notched two first-half goals against Stamford Bridge as the home side settled first, and the strikes proved decisive.

The visitors pulled one back before the interval when a wind assisted long throw deceived a defender into heading past his own 'keeper, but although Stamford enjoyed long periods of pressure in the second half - hitting the post and crossbar - an equaliser proved elusive.

Tudor Carrington scored the only goal of the game five minutes from the end as LNER Builders beat Wheldrake, while Neil Rankeillor scored both goals for Hamilton Panthers as they overcame Wilberfoss 2-1, with Andy Sutcliffe on the scoresheet for the visitors.

In Reserve A, champions Dringhouses Reserves came away from Dunnington with a 6-0 win having scored four goals in the last seven minutes to completely distort the outcome of the match.

Dunnington had looked favourites to win, squandering a host of chances, before they were hit by the late goal blitz.

A series of outstanding saves by Dunnington 'keeper Michael Edmondson and a number of missed chances by the young Dunnington forwards had earlier resulted in a scoreless first half.

Goals from Matthew Stericker (2) and Stuart Barker gave Haxby a comfortable win at Huntington , while David O'Connor scored for Pocklington in their 1-1 draw with Wigginton Grasshoppers.

Nathan Milner bagged a hat-trick with Matthew Biggins netting twice and Carl Sawdon once as Old Malton came away from New Earwick with a 6-2 win.

Craig Stimpson, from the penalty spot, and Alex Hepton scored the New Earswick consolation goals.

Andy Woodall and Mark Lucas netted to give Kartiers a good 2-1 home win over Bishopthorpe whose goal came from the penalty spot, while strikes by Rob Haw and Mark Sutherland were not enough to earn Osbaldwick a win at St John's College. The students netted four times.

Riccall thumped Fulford 8-1 in Reserve B to get their season of to a flying start.

Kevin Kozicki lead the way with three, and there were goals for Jamie Lund, Paul Hughes, Lorn Parkin Paul Hand and Tony Fowler.

The margin had only been 2-1 at half time with Will Shrimpton netting for Fulford.

Jim Brannigan and Joe Vaughan ensured that newly promoted Poppleton remained unbeaten as they saw of the challenge of visitors Easingwold, winning 2-0.

Rufforth and Moor Lane produced a remarkable match. Rob Sanderson scored in the first minute for Rufforth but they then went 3-1 behind by half time.

However, Sanderson scored again and goals from James Young and Dean Carter turned things round as Rufforth took all three points in a 4-3 win.

Civil Service remain unbeaten after a 2-0 win at Barmby Moor thanks to goals from Nick Hilton and Mark Dawson, while a Lee Hall goal proved not enough for South Bank who went down 3-1 at home to Malton Bacon Factory.

The Huby versus Haxby and Wigginton clash in Reserve C saw 15 goals go in, with the latter just managing to take the points.

Huby were two up after ten minutes but then Haxby and Wigginton scored six on the trot before the hosts managed another to make the score 6-3 at half time.

Huby had the better off the second half, but still went down 8-7.

Mike Taylor netted four for Haxby and Wigginton and their other goals came from Carl Kidds (2), Steve Barnard, and Stuart Kelly.

Rich Jennison hit three, Stuart Raper two and Rich Durrant and Paul Keetley one apiece for Huby.

Phil Qua, Jonathan Scutt and Andrew Smye scored for Wheldrake but they still ended on the losing side as Heslington managed four in reply.

Wilberfoss and Heworth fought out a close game with the home side, Wilberfoss winning 5-3. Their goals came from Damian Holden (2), Alan Bagley and John Parkin (2). Brendan Wright, Andrew Huxley and Nick Flanagan replied for Heworth.

Steve Johnson (2) and Shaun Linton scored the goals which saw Stillington to a 3-2 home win over Norton, while a Danny Metcalfe goal for Boroughbridge with 20 minutes to go was enough to win their game against LNER Builders.

Copmanthorpe managed their first win of the campaign as Calum McKay (2), Andrew Manns and Matt Pearson netted in a 4-0 defeat of White Horse.
