Forget Mel, Craig and Nasty Nick.

Former pupils of a North Yorkshire school are to emulate the Channel Four favourites in a sponsored three-day Big Brother event.

And they are hoping it will be beamed live over the Internet.

The school-leavers, made up of six girls and seven boys, came up with the idea as a fun way to raise money for the Holy Family RC School at Carlton, near Selby, which they left in the summer.

During the ten-week run of Big Brother, spy cameras were placed in every room to film the antics of "Nasty" Nick, "Scouser" Craig and "Flirty" Mel. They rapidly became the stars of the biggest TV hit of the year.

Organisers of the school's version - called The Little Sister to the Big Brother - are in talks with a York internet firm to set up web cameras around the school and beam live footage over the internet.

The 13 guinea pigs will only be allowed a sleeping bag and toiletries - and pupils from the school are to suggest suitable challenges to keep them occupied during their incarceration.

The boys will be sleeping on the common room floor, while the girls will be catching 40 winks in the staff room.

They will be monitored by Stacey Todd, 25.

Stacey said: "There will be two adults with them the whole time. They must cook for themselves and are allowed no contact with the outside world. It should be great fun."
