NETBALL

JOSEPH Rowntree continued their domination of the York schools netball scene by winning the city's national Under 19 tournament for the seventh year in succession.

Joseph Rowntree beat Bootham 13-2 in their opening match and then had a surprisingly easy 16-3 win over All Saints before a hard-fought 12-9 victory over Queen Margaret's.

The final match against York College would decide the destination of the trophy and Joseph Rowntree took a 5-1 lead at half time but lapsed in the second half.

Excellent shooting by Liz Davies, playing against her former school, saw York College fight back to lead 6-5 but a determined Rowntree team dug in to regain the lead and finished 7-6 winners to retain the title.

Final placings were: 1, Joseph Rowntree; 2, York College; 3, Queen Margaret's; 4, All Saints; 5, Bootham.

Joseph Rowntree squad: Amy Cunnington (captain), Katie Barrass, Helen Cordell, Julie Ely, Louise Perrins, Dawn Pashby, Jenny Carter, Emily Keen, Jo Phillips, Katy Neep, Gemma Shaw, Amy Snow.

Davies has been selected as a Talent 1 player for England trials after she was spotted playing with the Joseph Rowntree team at last year's national finals.
