IT is possible that by closing Lendal Bridge, trips by means of transport other than cars may become faster and more pleasant. Closing the bridge to private cars could mean that more people use the Park and Ride schemes, cycle or come into York by train.
An effect such as this would only show up with detailed traffic surveys which I believe the council has been doing. With Lendal Bridge open, traffic jams still occur all over York at all times of the day and night. A clearer overview would be needed before deciding what would be the best way of easing the congestion in York.
