I COMPLETELY agree with Mrs Pickard (October 30) regarding provision for cyclists on the Tadcaster Road between the city centre and Askham Bar.

On dark winter nights it is a daunting experience to use this route, given the narrowness of the road and heavy traffic which is often exceeding the speed limit.

The dotted lines marking the cycle lanes are only a token effort and offer little sense of security.

A genuine effort needs to be made to provide a real cycle track - not an obstacle course - which runs the full distance, including one of the worst stretches in Blossom Street.

If cyclists are to be encouraged then planners must give them some space, even if it means taking it from the motorist.
