Heworth face two important dates inside three days as they seek to climb the National Conference division one ladder and then defend themselves at a disciplinary meeting on Monday.

The Elmpark Way club face the music at Leigh Miners on Monday when BARLA will investigate the abandonment of Heworth's home match against Leigh East.

Six players were sent off with Heworth trio Lee and Sam Clarke and student international Anthony Howcroft in the dock along with Mike German, Anthony Gredecki and Jamie Macro from the Grasmere Street club.

However, it will be the decision of Oldham referee Clive Walker to call off the game on 66 minutes after a mass brawl that will be the major concern.

So anxiety over suspensions will not rear its ugly head for Heworth until next week, but they still have a few selection posers to contend with as they prepare for the visit of fellow strugglers Waterhead.

Heworth coach Harold Box looks set to be without quartet Karl Potter (hand), Jason Gatus (leg), Simon Harrison (shoulder) and Will Newry (knee) for the Oldham club's visit and Danny Wright is doubtful after bruising a hand in last weekend's 18-8 reversal at West Bowling.

Another concern is the pitch but club spokesman Ken Sykes said: "While the pitch was wet at training the other night, it was certainly still playable.

"However, if the rain continues to fall then we will have to look at the situation, but a decision will not be made until Saturday morning."

In division two, York Acorn will have their sights locked on second spot in the table.

They are at home to Dewsbury Moor and the Blue and Golds will be confident of taking both points off a side who are languishing in the bottom four.

Although fielding a young side this season, Acorn have taken 12 points from a possible 18, a far cry from last year when they languished in the bottom reaches of the league.

Facing late fitness tests are second rower Rich Warren (ankle), full-back John Hough (knee), prop Lea Tichener (ill) and scrum-half Lee Frank (back).

New Earswick All Blacks will be aiming to improve their standing too.

While currently next to bottom, the All Blacks are well aware that even a two point return could give their league position a far rosy appearance.

They go seeking those points on Humberside as they take on Cottingham Tigers, who they can leap-frog as the Hull club are on the same points as All Blacks and are just one place above them in the league.

All Blacks expect to be boosted by the return from injury of John Leach (ribs) and second rower Trevor Sadler.

However, their injury problems remain so pressing that Simon Booth, who had not been expected to return this season after an operation on a leg injury, may be forced into action.

Simon Mullarkey also returns after being unavailable for last weekend's 14-10 defeat against Castleford Panthers, but player-coach Mick McTigue is out for two weeks after sustaining a hamstring strain.

York Groves did not see any action in the Yorkshire League last week as the fixture programme was reduced to just one match, but this weekend they travel to division five leaders Ryhill Hammers.
