Evening Press cycling correspondent Keith Thompson has died at his Knaresborough home after a long illness. He would have been 65 this week.

Mr Thompson, who who born in Ripon but lived for much of his life in Knaresborough, had a lifelong love of cycling. He was a keen rider in his younger days and in more recent years was the key figure in running Knaresborough RT Cycling Club.

He was well known to cyclists all over North Yorkshire and through Knaresborough RT he helped to promote about 100 events in the season just finished.

Mr Thompson, who had a sweet shop and laundrette in Knaresborough, leaves a widow, a son and a daughter. Arrangements for the funeral have yet to be confirmed but it is likely to be held at Wetherby Road Crematorium, Harrogate, on Thursday, November 30, at 11am.
