The bringer of festive fun has scooted into York to start listening to the Christmas wishes of thousands of youngsters.

Santa hopped aboard this year's snazziest form of transport, the re-styled push scooter, to whizz along from the Lapland headquarters to the plush new grotto at the Asda store at Monks Cross.

The bearded bearer of gifts will be at the store from now until Christmas Eve to gather lists of present requests before hot-scooting it back to the snowy base to begin a packed schedule of deliveries.

Santa will also find time to reply to the thousands of letters local children send him each year.

Store manager Paul Williamson said: "We love to welcome Santa at our store every year. I hope lots of children can come to the store and see Santa with their Christmas wishes and raise money for local good causes."

Fifty pence from each one pound visit will be donated to charity.
