Two motorists were injured in a rush-hour accident on the A64 today.

The crash took place on the York-bound carriageway, at the Castle Howard junction, and involved a Vauxhall Corsa, which was in collision with a Hyundai Lantra.

Both cars were badly damaged, but police described the driver's injuries as "minor, at this stage."

They were both taken to York District Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed briefly, but rush-hour traffic was not badly affected as police got things moving again in less than ten minutes.

At the scene, Traffic Constable Paul Stephenson said: "There was quite a bit of fog about this morning, and that could well have been a factor."
