York City manager Terry Dolan has quashed speculation linking-him with a move for Aberdeen's Mark Perry.

The former Dundee United defender has been on the transfer-list at Pittodrie since the summer and is reportedly a target for a number of clubs.

Notts County, now bossed by former Don Jocky Scott, supposedly have the ball winner in their sights as do City's Division Three rivals Plymouth Argyle, who recently installed former Dundee United chief Paul Sturrock at the helm.

However, Dolan was adamant there was no substance to City's reported interest.

"There's nothing in it," said Dolan, who has made it known he is looking to strengthen his defence.

The fact City currently have two players - Neil Tarrant and Chris Iwelumo - on loan prevents City from drafting in another short-term signing for the time being.

League rules stipulate a club can only ever have two players in on loan at any one time.

However, a clause in those rules does allow clubs to draft in a player under the age of 23 on a long-term loan deal.

Known City target Mark Bower is still only 20-years-old and would therefore fall under that category.

Arsenal midfielder Guilliaume Norbet has signed a month's contract with City's FA Cup rivals Reading and the move could become permanent.

The 20-year-old Frenchman has made just over 13 appearances in the Gunners' Reserves side since joining them just over three years ago and has now been told he can leave on a free transfer.

Norbet has recently recovered from a knee injury and Reading will assess his performances before making a decision on his long-term future with the club.

"He has enough talent to make the grade, but I have to see if he has the other attributes needed in the Second Division," said Reading manager Alan Pardew, whose team visit Bootham Crescent in the second round of the FA Cup on December 9.
