On the up Pickering Town have pulled off a major transfer coup by landing the sharpest shooter in division one of the Northern Counties East League.

Manager Jimmy Reid has underlined his ambitions by securing the services of Yorkshire Amateur's ace marksman Stefan Zoll

A former Bradford City trainee, Zoll, 21, was recently playing his trade in the French third division.

He has already scored 13 goals this season and will go straight into the Pikes' squad for tomorrow's visit of new boys Gedling Town, providing all the paper-work goes through.

A delighted Reid said: "He is a big signing for us and has got a lot of pedigree."

Gedling, promoted from the Midlands League, have lost just once in division one this season.

Pickering are themselves challenging near the top of the table but Reid insists last week's 7-0 hammering of Parkgate will count for nothing.

He said: "If you lose two games at this stage of the season then you can see your season ruined just when you have worked so hard to get it up and running."

Goole will need to go on a winning run soon if they are to realise their goal of achieving promotion to the UniBond League starting at Arnold Town tomorrow.

Currently lying sixth in the NCEL premier division, Peter Daniel's men are ten points behind leaders Ossett Albion and eight behind second-placed Brigg Town, both of whom have also applied for UniBond League acceptance.

Hotshot Peter Collier may halt Brigg's charge as he looks to fire Selby Town to three points.

Collier, with 12 goals this season, stands alone at the top of the premier division scoring charts, and the Robins will be hoping he can add to his tally when Brigg visit Flaxley Road.

After Wednesday night's 2-1 defeat at the hands of third-placed Sheffield, Selby missed out on a chance of moving into the top half of the table but three points tomorrow would keep them on the coat-tails of the top ten.

Harrogate Railway jumped out of the relegation mire last week with their 3-0 defeat of Selby, and will be looking for three more points when they travel to mid-table Denaby United.

Indeed another win tomorrow and defeat for Selby could see Railway leapfrog their North Yorkshire rivals in the table.

Back in division one, struggling Tadcaster Albion are on their travels when they take on Borrowash Victoria.
