City of York VI brought a miserable run of defeats to an end by beating Sheffield University Bankers VIII 4-0.

York's only goal of the first half came five minutes into the game, skipper Clive Mill-Hicks tapping in.

They should have gone further ahead but Neil Buckley's excellent penalty stroke was saved well by the 'keeper at full stretch.

York withstood Sheffield pressure early in the second half, Peter Feasby clearing one effort off the line and Mick Fitton outstanding in defence.

That allowed York to regain control and they finally extended their lead when a good right wing run by Russell Grant, playing with a broken finger, ended with a perfect cross put away by Mill-Hicks.

Neil Reader then scored from a penalty corner and just before the end Mill-Hicks completed his first hat-trick for the club.

Dick Bowen scored the winner for City of York VI in the dying minutes of their clash with Sheffield University Bankers IX.

York had gone two goals up through James Owen, with his first of the season, and Bowen, before Bankers pulled back with a goal from open play and an equaliser from a short corner.

Despite Tom Duncan having to go to hospital after sustaining an injury, City pressured to be rewarded with Bowen's later strike.

Manningham I were unable to raise a team to meet City of York VIII so forfeited the points.
