Tadcaster Grammar School's football team bowed out of the Under-16s North Yorkshire County Cup at the quarter-final stage when they were beaten 7-3 by St John Fisher RC School (Harrogate).

But there was better news for Tadcaster's Under-14 team as they defeated the same school 3-2 in their respective County Cup.

Tadcaster reached the last eight of the Under-16s after defeating Scalby School (Scarborough) 2-1 in the previous round.

There were no goals in the first half of their clash with Scalby but Tadcaster started the better in the second half and John Swift put them in front.

The Tadcaster youngsters' thoughts must have been on reaching the quarter-final when with just 10 minutes remaining Scalby struck back to level the scores at 1-1 to set up a tense finish.

With just two minutes left on the clock, Tadcaster were awarded a corner which was taken by Swift and hit directly into the Scalby net.

St John Fisher now take on Stokesley School in the semi-finals.

Stokesley squeezed through to the last four with a 2-1 win over Richmond.

The Stokesley youngsters held a slim 1-0 advantage at the break after a Callum Scott effort gave the away side the lead.

The second half proved to be just as close with Mark Bollands on target for Stokesley's second. Richmond stayed in touch by hitting a consolation goal.

Joseph Rowntree School bowed out of the competition with a 4-0 defeat by Northallerton College who progressed to the last eight.

Northallerton scored two goals in 10 minutes before the break through Chris Gunnell and Matthew Hill. They doubled their tally late in the game with goals by Hill and Ben Connolly.

Northallerton were due to visit Graham School (Scarborough) in the quarter-final.
