York Conservative Clubs' Scruton Cup snooker champion for the past two years Neil Wood (Heworth) maintained his record of not dropping a frame by defeating Mick Frampton (Acomb) 2-0.

Wood had a 60 break in the second frame and will now meet George Tingle (Bootham) in the second round.

Clive Whyte (Heworth), twice a former winner, had a 56 break in the second frame when beating Barry Rankin (Bootham) 2-0.

Whyte will be at home to Richard Harris (Acomb).

Brian Coulson (Bootham), winner in 1992, knocked in a 30 break to secure a 2-0 victory over Paul Waits (Acomb). Coulson will now meet Ken Bowser (Acomb) in the next round.
