I am writing in response to the suggestion made by Rowland Burdon in Saturday's Evening Press regarding a need for a bus station at a sensible location (January 6).

I for one, and probably my neighbours in Queen Street, would be very unhappy with this idea, since for the past two and a half weeks we have had to endure approximately 60 coaches a day using the Queen Street slip road to ferry rail passengers to and from Leeds.

The access to and from the railway car park is very limited, and thankfully there were no accidents. But there could quite easily have been, as some of the bus drivers entered the slip road at stupid speeds.

The houses in Queen Street were not built to cope with such traffic as they shook and vibrated when the buses went by, so in the long term they would probably face structural damage.

Reading Monday's letters page, Arthur Franks' suggestion for Stonebow is excellent. You could not get a more central location - ideal for passengers, as the hotels and guest houses are only a short distance away, also the local bus stops in Pavement and Piccadilly and not forgetting the taxi rank in St Saviorgate.
