Project IGI (I'm Going In) for PC by Eidos Interactive

Specs: Pentium 300, 64Mb RAM, 500Mb free hard disk space, 4xCD-ROM, 8Mb Accelerated Video Card

So big! The landscapes go on forever in this first person shooter. You are David Llewelyn Jones, ex-SAS soldier and freelance intelligence operative, and your task is to retrieve Josef Priboi, Estonian mafiosi arms dealer, from the Eastern Bloc for interrogation. Remember Golden Eye for the N64?

Given the range of equipment and weapons including tanks, APCs, jets and even satellites (told you the environment is vast) and the fact that they react fairly realistically - bullets go through wooden walls but not brick - this game is very easy to get addicted to, though the level of difficulty can be quite high at times making the game frustrating. This feeling is amplified by the lack of an in-game save facility so when you bite the bullet, you just have to start again. Boo hoo!

The playability of the game, with such demanding graphics, could be better, though having a faster video card would probably help that. The 8Mb video spec is wishful thinking, with a 16Mb Voodoo more realistic as the rendering of textures and polygons do get heavy at times. Parents may be glad to know that blood and guts effects can be turned off and even password protected for younger players.

Sound is quite good with the various gun shots having a chilling effect. The music is very repetitive but does fade into the background as you become more engrossed in the gameplay.

Overall, a superb game with a vast array of military hardware available to you in what must be the largest environment ever.
