JUDITH Dawson wrote regarding Jade Cumberland's false limb problem (February 7).
Knowing the family personally, I have watched Jade trying desperately to adapt herself to these false legs, so much so that I once witnessed her walk to Layerthorpe and home again. As a result, she did not suffer merely "pinches, nips and sores," she was in agony and her legs were bleeding badly. Still she perseveres and puts on a brace face.
It is difficult, however, not to notice that each visit to Chapel Allerton, which have been very numerous (not missed and cancelled as stated by the hospital), seems to knock a small piece out of this spirited, feisty and courageous little girl's character. She has been given promises and then let down by the hospital. The immense pain and suffering Jade is having to cope with would be extremely difficult for an adult. The fact that a child has to endure it in this day and age is appalling.
