STAGESTRUCK Sian Davies is 'hopelessly devoted' to ... who?

Organisers of a Grease extravaganza to mark the climax of the Pocklington film festival have been desperately seeking a John Travolta to be Danny to Sian's Sandy. But did they get very far? Unfortunately not.

Although David Stuart, projectionist at Pocklington Civic Arts Centre, Oak House, stood in for the photographs, he will be otherwise engaged on the night actually showing the film.

So Sian, 17, of Wigginton, one of the guests of honour at the school prom-style rock'n'roll bash being held after the film showing, is worried she might be stranded at the drive-in if she doesn't find a date in time for the March 1 event.

She said: "I volunteered because I'm really keen on drama. I've had walk-on parts in TV programmes like Heartbeat and At Home With The Braithwaites.

"Last year I did Fame at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre and I'm doing Return to the Forbidden Planet this year.

"There'll need to be somebody else with me for the Grease event because when you think of Grease you associate it with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, not just one on her own."

A1 Luxury American Stretched Limos generously donated a Cadillac to plug the film festival taking place at Pocklington Civic Arts Centre, Oak House, between February 23 and March 1.

Films being shown during the festival are The Commitments, Unbreakable, Peter Pan, Carry on Camping and Carry on Cruising, Billy Elliot and Some Like It Hot.

On the last night, March 1, at 7.30pm, Grease will be shown followed by a Grease spectacular sponsored by The Yorkway Motel Ltd, Pocklington.

Motel manager Peter Lemon, said: "We're looking for a local person to be John Travolta and join Sian as a special guest on the night of the spectacular.

"No singing or dancing skills are required but he has to be prepared to dress up and have a good laugh."

Guests to the party are expected to dress up as Pink Ladies and T-Birds. Limited tickets, costing £8, are only available from the Oak House box office on 01759 301547.

If you would like to take part call Peter on 01759 303071.
