I LIVE on Huntington Road overlooking the River Foss, a very pleasant aspect if it was not for all the litter, mainly polythene bags left by the steady stream of dog-walkers who use the path and field.

We are so fortunate to have these facilities with the wild life and trees so close to hand that I find it hard to believe that people can be so careless and cavalier in their attitude to it all.

We have watched people - mainly adults - pick up dog dirt in a polythene bag and then when they think nobody is looking just throw it down.

They also use bags to clean up their shoes and then throw them either on the ground to be blown about or into the river to foul that up. What is wrong with taking your own mess home and disposing it in your own dustbin where it belongs?

Soon nowhere will be pleasant to walk.

We will all be up to our armpits in other people's rubbish.
