Heavy snow will hit North and East Yorkshire tonight, weather experts have warned.
Snow which is sweeping across Scotland today is moving south slowly.
A weather expert said: "It isn't really going to hit until tonight. There will be a few inches of snowfall, particularly on higher ground."
Rail travellers were being told they would not get further north than Newcastle today.
Heavy snow brought down power lines in Scotland, meaning trains from York were being stopped in the north east.
Virgin Trains cancelled all services across the border.
