York City fan George Davidson is calling on fellow Minstermen supporters to sign-up to a three-point plan of action and play their part in the fight to stave off relegation.

For this Saturday's home encounter with in-form Hartlepool and the midweek visit of Southend on Tuesday, Davidson is calling on all fans to:

* Wear red as a sign of solidarity

* Bring a friend - if every fan brings just one friend it could double the attendance.

* Make some noise and get behind the team.

"We have enjoyed two unexpectedly good results but we are still in great danger so we need to build on this ray of light," Davidson told the Evening Press.

"We saw the difference the fans made to Exeter when they got behind their team and to Brighton when they failed to back them.

"There is certainly room in Bootham Crescent for a few more people and by wearing red, making some noise and bringing a friend there is a chance to build up some momentum."

York-born Davidson, 30, admits because of his work for an Internet company in London his attendance at Bootham Crescent has been "pretty shoddy".

"But if other people can come out of the woodwork at such a crucial time it could make a major difference," he explained.

"Whatever problems people have with some people at the club the most important thing now is to get behind the team.

"There must be lots of people who went in the early 1990s and 1980s in better days for the club who would hate to see York City relegated."

And while City still have 14 games to go, Davidson insisted now is the time for positive action.

He said: "It is still a worrying position and if the teams below us win their games in hand then we will be in big trouble.

"We have got some tough games in the run-in and the important things is to get support now rather than when there is just a few games left to go and it is too late."
