Thirteen-year-old Amy Clayden from Tadcaster Swim Squad was voted Selby and District Sports Council's Young Sportswoman of the Year award for 2000.
This was in recognition of some outstanding performances during the year, culminating in her seventh place in the national age group championships in the 100 metres backstroke.
She was also one of three Tadcaster swimmers to qualify for the first of this year's Multi Nations meetings held at Leeds, where she qualified for the final of the womens' 50m backstroke.
Club colleague Peter Webster also impressed in the 'B' final of the men's 200m backstroke, an event containing some of last year's GB Olympic team and posting good times in the 50m and 100m races.
