The foot and mouth outbreak has led to chefs at a top York restaurant seeing stripes.
Staff at the Blue Bicycle, in Fossgate, laid a temporary road crossing outside their door to mark the arrival of a new meat on the menu - zebra.
Owner David Rose explained that its patrons' culinary habits had changed since the foot and mouth outbreak began.
"We have noticed that, even though it doesn't affect people consuming meat, people just aren't eating lamb," he said.
"So we are taking it off the menu, and beef and pork, and we are putting zebra on the menu, because it isn't affected by foot and mouth and it isn't an endangered species."
Zebra is likely to be available only until tonight, but Mr Rose said the other meats would stay off the menu.
The move was criticised by Alan Robertshaw, spokesman for York Animal Aid, who said: "It's obviously a development we would abhor.
"We would encourage people to look around to restaurants selling local products, especially vegetarian and vegan alternatives."
