York and District beating Thornaby 74-70 in the Yorkshire Ladies League was not enough for them to pip North Cave to win the group.
Although they won all but one of their matches, York finished a disappointing third in the table.
York's Pat Napier, Maureen Walker, Lynda Parker and Dor Kennelly won their home rink 28-9, their opponents scoring on only six ends.
Linda Harrison, Sheila Turpin, Joyce Chelin and Norma Reed led 18-16 with one end to play, but they dropped three shots and the visitors won by one shot.
Carol Instone, Pat Bracken, Sue Kirkpatrick and Joan Jackson recovered from being 6-1 down after five ends to draw level 11-11 after 12 ends and score a four to go 15-11 ahead in their game at Thornaby. But the home side scored a three and a two on the last two ends to win 23-16.
Sue Chilton, Sue Tomlinson, Betty Richardson and Maureen Robinson were level 7-7 after nine ends at Thornaby but the home side won nine of the 12 remaining ends to win 19-12.
Selby won three rinks and lost one in beating New Earswick 90-62 in their Yorkshire Ladies League match, leaving New Earswick bottom of their section with only 15 points from five matches..
There was a dramatic last end win for the Selby rink playing at New Earswick against Jean Bartnett, Maureen Cooper, Kath Hardcastle and Pat Storey.
New Earswick recovered from being 9-4 down to lead 17-10 after 14 ends. Selby hit back to reduce the gap to 20-19 with one end to play and they picked up two shots to win 21-20.
Brenda Keller, Kath Sykes, Anne Thompson and Dot Kay lost 32-11 at home to their Selby visitors, who led 9-1 after five ends, 13-9 after ten and then won eight of the next nine ends to lead 30-10 with two to play.
New Earswick's Maureen Wood, Moyra Headley, Maureen Shorrocks and Pat Walker scored a superb 18-17 win at Selby after being 8-0 down after four ends and 17-6 after 15. The New Earswick players scored 12 shots in taking the next six ends to win their game.
Shirley Hopwood, Clarice Robinson, Audrey Shingles and Lys Jerrum lost 20-13 at Selby, who scored six on the fifth end to lead 7-4. New Earswick drew level on the next end and then the home side gradually pulled clear.
