The Hospice 2000 appeal launched by the Evening Press has today reached the £1.7 million mark.
After placing a new petal on the "petalometer" outside St Leonard's Hospice, guests were given a tour of the new extension which is the subject of our £2 million appeal.
Hospice chief executive Steven Harker said: "The response to our appeal continues to amaze everyone involved at St Leonard's. We are ever closer to reaching the summit of our £2 million mountain.
"We need the final push to achieve our target.
"We are so grateful to everyone for their continued and faithful support."
Evening Press editor Liz Page, who joined the site visit, said: "It's great to see the site really starting to take shape.
"With everyone's help we might be able to see it up and running later this year."
If you have any fundraising ideas or would like to help with the appeal in any way please contact the hospice fundraising centre on 01904 781576.
