AN ELDERLY woman has been killed in a fire at a house in York.
The woman's body was discovered when emergency services were called to a fire at the house in St Stephen's Square, Acomb, shortly before 3pm today (TUES).
It is believed the dead woman was in her 70s and lived with her husband.
Neighbour Vera Hinds said she was shocked because she had seen the woman who lived at the house taking coal into her coal house only an hour before the blaze.
Mrs Hinds broke down in tears and had to be comforted by a friend.
An elderly woman was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.
Police said it was too early to say what caused the fire, but police and fire investigators were examining the scene.
