Q I have failed my driving test three times, on the same thing. I am taking it again in three weeks, can you help me pass please?

A Yes I can help you pass, but not just by writing an answer in this column. If you contact me through the Evening Press, I will happily work with you.

Your challenge is that you now have a 'habit' of failing your driving test on whatever it is you repeatedly get wrong. As with any habit, if you want to change it you must replace it with another habit. Passing your test would be a good one.

Visualisation is the key. When you see a golfer taking a practice swing they are not just loosening up, they are telling their subconscious what they want to happen. You too must visualise. Let's use a hill start as an example. Find a quiet place where you can sit for about five minutes. Close your eyes and see yourself sitting in the car. Now move your feet on the clutch and brake, at the same time use the gear stick at your side. In your mind make a perfect hill start, now tell yourself how good you feel and do it again. Do it about five times, twice a day up to your test. On test day, speak to yourself in a positive way, "I'm going to pass, I'm going to pass" and give me a call when you do. Better still, drive round and tell me. When you have mastered the art of visualisation you will have the ability to predict what Mohamed Ali used to call "future history."
