IT should be a soft landing if any builder accidentally falls while working on Shepherd Construction's latest house building project in Fishergate, York.
The York-based firm is among the first to use the Airmatt system, modular low-pressure bags quickly and easily installed to fill the void between men working at great height and the ground - in this case during the refurbishment of Fishergate House which with new build will result in 15 apartments expected to be completed in June.
So far the airbag has had a successful trial, said Mark Owen, head of safety for Shepherd Construction. He added: "Now we intend to use the system on other sites."
