SUPER-FIT duo Joanna Feasby and Natalie Cooper have proven themselves to be among the best young biathletes in the country.

The York pair finished fifth and seventh in their respective sections of the National Schools' Biathlon Championships.

The event, held in Rugby, comprised a 50-metre swim followed by an 800m run, and 13-year-old Feasby, a pupil at All Saints School, finished fifth in the junior section having previously become regional champion.

Cooper, a lower sixth form student at Queen Margaret's School, clocked a personal best time of 3mins 10.1secs in coming seventh out of 13 competitors in the senior section, having qualified for the national finals back in October.

Both disciplines were completed in personal bests times, of 32.1secs and 2mins 38secs, respectively.

YORK Schools representative football games have been suspended until further notice because of the foot and mouth outbreak.

St Barnabas Primary School won for the first time this season, 3-1 at St Wilfrid's with good goals by Adam Butler, Gareth Miles and Carl Pullen.

NETBALL

ALL Saints RC School's under-15 netball team have been crowned York and District U15 champions following victory in a thrilling tournament.

Joseph Rowntree School were their main challengers and the sides met in the final where All Saints won 7-6.

All Saints also won the earlier pool match between the teams but Rowntree topped the group on goal difference, with both schools making the semi-finals where All Saints beat Huntington School 4-3.

All Saints also finished fourth in the Yorkshire and Humberside U15 Tournament, while their under-13s team were knocked out in the semi-finals of their section, 7-5 by York rivals Huntington School.

Meanwhile, Queen Margaret's School won the Independent Schools' Under-13s Invitation Netball Tournament held at Casterton School in Cumbria - after hammering the host team 6-1 in the final.

Eleven schools took part in the competition, being split into two groups. Queen Margaret's won four and drew one of their five pool games, then beat North Yorkshire rivals St Martin's School 5-2 in the semi-finals before their success in the final.

RUGBY LEAGUE

YORK Schools Under-11s get their 2001 rugby league programme underway tomorrow against Leeds.

The other opponents York will face in the league are Castleford, who they play next Tuesday, Bradford and Keighley, and they will also play a couple of friendlies.

The Under-11s have between 25 and 30 players training and will take two teams to some of the fixtures.
