Pocklington went out of the Yorkshire Cup losing 6-8 in a bruising encounter with Redcar worsened by missing two injury-time penalties.

The first round tie kicked off 25 minutes late when the appointed referee failed to turn up. The night was rescued by local official Stuart Fray-Cowan.

The hosts took the lead through an excellent Kevin Bowling penalty in the tenth minute.

Bowling also saw another soaring kick come back off a post, but Pocklington's strong defence saw them hold their lead to the interval.

Pocklington were at the receiving end of a number of stamping, punching and kicking incidents, two of which were spotted and resulted in a Redcar man going to the sin bin.

But Redcar were still a man light when they put together a good attack to stretch over in the corner for the night's only try from number 8 Paul Beal.

The hosts' centre, Rob Nolan, saw two penalties drift wide before Bowling took over the kicking again, hitting a penalty to put Pock' back in front.

Redcar edged back in front with a penalty from Andy Dean before the hosts launched a determined effort.

When the two sides last met at York in the Yorkshire Shield final last April Pocklington snatched a last-gasp winner.

And they had the chances to steal it again deep into injury time, but Bowling's two penalties were off target enabling Redcar to go through and meet Selby at home in the next round on Tuesday.
