Two of the Hunters Estate Agent York and District Senior League's representative sides have had a successful start to the season.
The League's Under-21 team beat the Wetherby League in the White Rose Trophy and the Under-17 team had a thrilling victory over the strong North Yorkshire Cricket Association side.
In the White Rose Trophy game, at the New Rover ground, Leeds, York skipper Tom Glover (Whitkirk) won the toss and elected to bat.
Initially this seemed to be a flawed decision as the two Wetherby opening bowlers, D Childe and R Ward, imposed a vice-like grip on the batsmen by conceding only 13 runs in the first 12 overs.
With Ian Calpin (York) being bowled by Childe for five and Grant Galloway (Whitkirk) hitting a return catch to Ward after making only a single, the York League side were in some difficulty when Glover strode out to join Steve Spence (Selby) at 13 for two.
Glover, who won the Best Young Player Awards for both the York Senior League and the Leeds Area Joe Lumb last season, immediately made his presence felt when he cracked the first two boundaries of the innings off L Russell, who had replaced Childe in the attack.
The third-wicket partnership had added 99 runs when Spence was caught for 63. Glover and his Whitkirk team-mate, Philip Scoular, then added 51 runs before Glover was fourth out when he was bowled by Ward for 54.
Childe, on his return to the attack accounted for Scoular, who had made 43, but the fourth Whitkirk member of the team, Matthew Wright, hit his first two balls for a six and a four and, with Chris Cole (York) making 23 not out, a total of 222 for seven was posted in the available 50 overs.
The Wetherby openers found runs hard to come by against the bowling of Tom Barton (Sessay) and Matthew Coulson (Stillington) and were only able to score at two an over in the first ten overs, both batsmen then falling in single figures as Coulson bagged a clean bowled and a caught behind by Scoular.
With Glover and Cole also bowling tight spells, the Wetherby side's run rate was always lacking and their ten-man side was eventually dismissed for 139 with Coulson claiming two for 23 and Glover two for 27.

The league's Joe Lumb XI were in competitive action for the first time when they entertained the North Yorkshire Cricket Association at Thirsk.
The NYCA batted first and made a respectable 196 for nine with R Lazenby making 57 and R Evans 45. However, the first half honours undoubtedly went to York's Tom Pringle who captured seven wickets for 69.
When York batted, Nathan Briggs (Clifton Alliance) made 45 then Matthew Beckett (Stamford Bridge) hit an unbeaten 49 which saw his side clinch a fine two-wicket win.
