In the battle of the expected leaders of the York Tyke Petroleum Men's Tennis League division one, John and Alex Moore led Poppleton to victory with an unbeaten 24 against Dunnington.
Phil Spencer and Andy Peeke Vout had scored 24 the previous week in Dunnington's 66-42 win over York.
Philip Sinton and Jimmy Carter went to 25 in Civil Service's 63-45 win over Rowntree Park.
Promoted Wigginton started well with a win over York. Ian Tooms and Stuart Conacher were unbeaten with 24 games, as were Phil Langley and Ken Storey.
In division two, relegated York II started badly against a strong Strensall side. Mark Ward and Richard Pears scored 30 of Strensall's 83.
Riccall, the other team down from the top division, were successful, winning 60-48 against Sutton. John Tongue and Paul Elmhurst scored 24.
Poppleton II's Rob McEwan and Chris Wilson scored 26 in the 64-44 win over Copmanthorpe.
Appleton Roebuck against Wheldrake in division three provided quality tennis worthy of a higher division, the first five rubbers being drawn.
Wheldrake scored seven in the sixth but went down 8-4 to Dave Bradley and Paul Harrison and to John Giles and Peter Ziegler, both pairs finishing on 20. Relegated Fulford made a bad start losing 38-70 to Cawood despite Leo Waters and Peter Griffiths scoring 20. Cawood lost only one rubber and all three couples topped 20. Cawood were promoted from four.
Division four's Castlegarth looked intent on quick promotion with two good wins. Adrian Bury and Stuart Robinson scored 23 against both Copmanthorpe and Heworth, losing twice at Copmanthorpe but scoring a maximum.
Boston Spa's season started predictably against relegated New Earswick. Gordon Milne and Andrew Elliott scored 30 unbeaten out of 75.
Cliffe against Riccall II, both teams having been relegated to division five, provided a comfortable win for Cliffe 66-42, Dave Hall and John Leetham scoring 25.
Noel Shouksmith and Paul Bratsby broke even for Riccall.
Sutton upon Derwent II's Dave Newell and Pete Rollins scored two 12-0 wins in their 31 of the 65-43 win at Selby. Promoted Civil Service II lost players to the first team and were well beaten at Knaresborough II whose Hargreaves/Dixon pairing scored 29. Rufforth, also promoted, beat Dunnington III with the ever reliable Andy Ivel and David Laws scoring an unbeaten 27.
Of the three new teams in division six only Starbeck had a win, 65-43 against New Earswick II, whose Terry Triffitt and Keith Pearson scored 20.
Nestl II opened with an 84-24 defeat by their first team. Richard Rafton and Clive Christison scored 34.
Nestl II, with only two couples, lost 88-20 to Boston Spa II, who had already beaten New Earswick II 92-16. Sephton Baxter and Dennis Hobson scored 32.
In a strengthened Wheldrake II's 70-38 win over Bishopthorpe II, all three pairs scored over 20 without losing a rubber.
