The 11-year-old lad who challenged all-comers at snooker took on twenty challengers - and managed to beat 13 of them.
They came from far and wide following the story that little Steve Gregson, from Stockton-on-the-Forest, was willing to play anyone who turned up challenge him at Selby's Bermuda Triangle Club.
Club owner Colin Cain offered a colour television to whoever beat Steve by the biggest margin - and the prize went to a player who had travelled from Manchester who has just turned pro at pool. He beat Steve by sixty points.
The challenge arose from Steve, one of top 32 under-14 players in England, beating the Triangle Club snooker team a few weeks earlier.
"Steve was a bit taken aback by the clearly high standard of some of those who came to play him," said his mother Debbie Gregson. "But he played them all and enjoyed it. He was due to stop playing at 5pm but didn't finish till nearly nine."
