Four villages on the eastern side of North Yorkshire have reached the final stages of judging for this year's Yorkshire Village of the Year.
They are Terrington, west of Malton; Lealholm, deep in the North York Moors; and Wykeham and Ruston, which are near Scarborough.
Entries are assessed on environmental issues, business, young people, older people and community life.
An additional category, for villages which use information technology to improve the quality of rural life, has been added this year.
Three villages from Yorkshire will go on to represent the region in the Calor Gas/Daily Telegraph Village of the Year competition for England and Wales.
