Third division Hornsea's number three batsman had another frustrating afternoon yesterday.

He was padded up for his side's entire innings while his two openers hit their second successive unbroken double century partnership of the weekend. After sharing an unbroken stand of 271 on Saturday, Michael Johnston and Paul Clappison repeated the double century feat yesterday when they made 204 without being parted at Hovingham to take their undefeated tally over the weekend to 475 runs.

Batting first, Hovingham took full batting points when they reached 201 for 9 despite a 5 for 59 performance by Richard Medforth. Stuart Prest led the way with 65 while other good contributions came from Phil Ryan 38 and 15-year-old ex-Pickering youngster George Rounthwaite who made 28.

The scene was then set for the dynamic Hornsea duo who took their side to a ten wicket win in a virtual repeat of their Saturday performance.

Clappison, who hit Hornsea's first double century last season and is one of only five players, one being Yorkshire's Jim Love, to hit a ball over the Hornsea pavilion into the next street, outscored his partner and was able to record his second ton in three days when he reached 104no.

His Australian partner remained unbeaten with 84 and their side now lead the division by 16 points.

Second placed Heworth narrowly failed to get the full batting bonus and also missed out on a victory when Heslington were able to gain a rewarding draw. For Heworth, Graham Hogben made 74, Jason Gatus 39 and Graham Morritt 26no as they made 198 for 7 with Chris Dower claiming 4 for 46 for Heslington. Gatus then continued to impress in taking 4 for 64 but Paul Clark made 48 and Andy Ezzard 28.

Robin Cockerill then made an unbeaten 51 to steer Heslington to a draw at 173 for 7.

Osbaldwick's last pair defied the Bolton Percy attack for 10 overs to gain a draw at 75 for 9 after Bolton had made 164 for 4. For the homesters, Andy Rigby and Mike Furze each made 40 whilst Howard Hall was unbeaten with 44.

Osbaldwick's batting wilted as Henry Houseman with 5 for 26 and Richard Douthwaite (3-28) appeared to be bowling them to defeat. However two teenagers had other ideas and Steve Horner, aged 17, and 16-year-old Alex Rippon mounted a defiant rearguard action which saw them repel all the efforts of the Bolton bowlers to survive for ten overs and earn a draw at 75 for 9.

Stuart Baxter hit exactly 100 as Cawood posted 226 for 4 against Londesbrough Park.

Other runs came from Tim Bartram who made 58 and Dave Bath who was unbeaten with 30.

Bath followed with 3 for 49 but Londesbrough were able to reach a comfortable draw at 175 for 5 through the efforts of John Williamson 26, Chris Barlow 53 and Martin Swann 34no.

New Earswick gave a mediocre batting display at Malton and Old Malton when their dismissal for only 60 by Chris Hudson who took 6 for 13 in 20 testing overs, was a prelude to an 8 wicket win for the home side.

Selby batted first at Woodhouse Grange and made 140 for 9 thanks to Colin Banks 41 and Stu Smith 33. Ian Gladstone took 3 for 33 for the Grange who made the required runs for the loss of three wickets with Steve Thompson making 47 and Graham Smith 31 not out.
