Wistow top division six of the IT Sports York Mixed Tennis League after wins against Bishopthorpe and then in the the top of the table clash against Riccall.

Wistow had a big 81-27 victory at Bishopthorpe, where all their couples won 27 games.

However, it was much closer when they entertained previous table-toppers Riccall, who were edged to a slender 55-53 defeat.

Wistow were behind after both first and second rounds but just secured enough games in the final round to take the win despite valiant efforts from Riccall's unbeaten Terry Knowles and Isobel Harrison.

Cawood moved into third place with a 61-47 win against previously second-placed Poppleton with a solid team performance in which they won 25 games in the final rubbers to ensure victory.

York I moved into second spot in division one after their 66-42 win at Stillington which was thanks to Andy Cooke and Wendy Shepherd, who won 29 games.

Poppleton remain top although Dunnington gave them their toughest test so far in a 58-50 scoreline. Paul Birch and Suzie Booth won 20 games, only going down to Poppleton's Duncan Prior and Belinda Turnbull 7-5.

Civil Service won their first match against York II 67-41 with Service not losing a set.

Fulford are the only team left unbeaten in division two after York lost to Rowntree Park for whom Paul Adams and Cheryl Broomhead were inspired, winning all three sets 9-3 for a 68-40 success.

Sherburn are one of the four teams on four points after they beat Tadcaster 58-50 in a match of varied fortunes. Tadcaster's Ian and Debbie Young won 27 games but could not lift their team to their first win against a solid Sherburn side.

Castlegarth are finding the tennis hard in the higher division and lost out to Poppleton 63-45 to leave them at the foot of the table.

Poppleton top division three after their 63-45 win at neighbours Civil Service ended Service's unbeaten run. Poppleton's Alan Humphrey and Kat Halliday were their top scorers with 27 games.

Dunnington seconds are looking to make a quick return to the higher division after their win against Tollerton 77-31 led by Kevin Todd and Joyce Rhodes, who won 31 games.

Appleton Roebuck won their first match against Dunnington thirds 61-47 thanks to top scorers Matthew Kilgallon and Amber Hickman. They were well supported by John Giles and Judy Marriott.

Cawood stay in top in division four after close wins against previously unbeaten Selby, 56-52, and then at Strensall, 57-51.

Neil Hepworth and Lorraine Bishop were Cawood's match winners against Selby winning their first rubber 10-2 in an otherwise close fixture and again were the top scorers against Strensall, although Richard Pears and Alison Smethurst were unbeaten for Strensall.

A much changed Wheldrake side held on to their lead at the top of division five with a 57-51 win against a good Copmanthorpe side thanks to Dave Fenton and Helen Roe staying unbeaten with 25 games.

Fulford go into third place after beating Appleton Roebuck 72-36 headed by Leo Waters and Linda Irving, who won 28 games.

Sutton-on-Derwent exchanged places with Rowntree Park after their 68-40 win thanks to the top scorers of Chris Hobson and Pam Lochman.

Judith Evans and John Place kept Rufforth in the hunt for promotion in division seven after their 73-35 defeat of Sheriff Hutton. They won 27 games and are just behind leaders Fulford, who have won their last two matches at Sheriff Hutton, 64-44, and against Strensall, 65-43.

Fulford's best pair against Strensall were Martin Evans and Pat Hickson with Pete Rose and Linda Irving topping the scoring against Sheriff Hutton. Tollerton moved into third with a win against bottom place Tadcaster.

It's all change in division eight after Cawood won their first match against previously unbeaten Riccall, who were knocked off the top. Cawood's top scorers were John Cattanach and Jane Hill with 24 games.

Sutton-on-Derwent took pole position with a 65-43 win against York in another good team effort.

Castlegarth are the only other team with maximum points after they beat Dunnington 71-37 with their first pair of Gary Jones and Rachel Butterworth winning all three sets 9-3 to top score.

Bubwith and Wilberfoss meet in the clash of the week in division nine with both teams still unbeaten after Wilberfoss won both their last two matches, 81-27 against Escrick and 71-37 at Wigginton.

However, the biggest win of the week was Bubwith's 91-9 demolition of Tollerton, Ian Driffil and Liz Bramley winning 35 games while Chris Cobley and Alison Fletcher took 34.

Civil Service jumped three places after the bottom of the table fixture with New Earswick. They won 77-31 with their third couple of Peter Hunt and Jo Allerton top scoring.

Stillington still top division ten despite their 57-51 loss to Appleton Roebuck who have moved second.

Nestl went third after their 63-45 win against Sutton-on-Derwent inspired by Clive Christison and Elizabeth Langley, who won 27 games.

Fulford are the only unbeaten side after their 73-35 win against Wistow in which experienced Terry Haw and Jeanne Loadman proved too hot to handle.
