Harrogate's strong bowling attack made short work of York in the Yorkshire ECB County Premier League at St George's Road yesterday.

Defending a total of 220 for five, Harrogate bowled York out for 156 in 50 overs, four out of Harrogate's five bowlers taking at least two wickets.

After a start delayed for 15 minutes because of the wet conditions, the hosts batted first with John Inglis scoring 63, Ryan Bradshaw 61 and Dave Pennett 42.

The main bright spot for York was the bowling of young Stephen Piercy, newly recovered from a thumb injury, who bowled 16 overs for a return of three for 58 including the valuable wickets of John Proud (22), Peter Hepworth, clean bowled for seven, and Bradshaw, who later had an excellent game keeping wicket for Harrogate.

Teenager Bradshaw held five catches as York plunged to their first defeat of the three-day Bank Holiday weekend.

There were runs galore for a select few of the batsmen in the league. Cleethorpes' Kiwi Test star, Matthew Sinclair, scored another double century, while Indian Amit Dani hit 116 for Hull against Sheffield Collegiate whose Charlie Wall made 117 to no avail as Collegiate ended up six runs short of Hull's total of 273 for five.

There was disappointment, however, for Doncaster's Peter Ellis who was taken out for 98 in the last over of their innings in the match against Sheffield United
