A valiant display was not enough for York Groves as they signed off their campaign with a 37-0 defeat to Hunslet Old Boys in the Yorkshire League division five top-four play-off.
Hunslet sped to a 9-0 lead in the first 20 minutes catching Groves cold.
Then the Yortk side recovered their poise and spent the remainder of the half on top, but unable to find a way through.
Groves began the second-half in similarly enterprising fashion with John Thompson and Simon Moat both being stopped just short of the try line.
But once Hunslet countered with a brace of tries against the run of play Groves' resistance was effectively ended, though they did force the issue before the final whistle only once more to find their rivals' defence too stern a barrier.
