York's Labour and Conservative candidates took to the streets this Bank Holiday - and both claimed to have won the ear of the voters.
Tory candidate for York Michael McIntyre and his Selby counterpart, Michael Mitchell, teamed up and took their 'keep the pound' campaign to Parliament Street.
Mr Mitchell said: "The people were hugely responsive. They don't want to lose the pound and were very supportive of the campaign."
But Labour candidate Hugh Bayley, who was canvassing a short distance away, said: "We met with a great many people who said it was right Labour would hold a referendum on the issue.
"They want to choose, rather than have their minds made up for them."
