Her life spans three centuries and she has six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

And today is her 104th birthday.

Devon-born Caroline Goss, now resident at Somerset Nursing Home, Wheldrake, is celebrating the big day with a small party with some of her many relations.

Son Michael, from Bubwith, described her as a hard-working lady who loves gardening.

Born in 1897, she moved to London in 1942 where she stayed until 1957 before moving to Kent.

She then lived with Michael until last year; her husband Walter died in 1956.

"She is a remarkable lady," he said.

"She is still very with it and has been looking forward to today."

He added that she was looking forward to receiving another telegram from the Queen next year on her 105th birthday.
