York Tennis Club made a fine start to their Yorkshire League division one programme with a 5-4 victory over Doncaster at Clifton Park.
A weakened York side without Darren Ferre and Simon Billington, who are not playing this year, and Paul Blackett who was on holiday, owed their success to reserve pair Nick Linfoot and Nick Robinson, who won the crucial rubber against Doncaster's third pair after being heavily beaten in their other two matches.
Andy Cooke, back after a bad arm injury, and Steve Smith won two rubbers, as did Peter Goodall and Gerry Adams.
