There was a tremendous match at the Willows on Saturday, when the lowest weight recorded by any of the 41 competitors was 12lb.

Armley Angling duo Hewson and Wilmore won the top prizes. From pegs on Goldrush, they chose to fish pole with pellet and had mixed nets of ide, orfe, chub, carp and tench.

Hewson, fishing at peg 42, landed a crucial bonus carp of 8lb which boosted his catch to 47lb 12oz. Wilmore, at peg 49, was second, with 40lb 10oz.

The best weight on Ridge Pool was 36lb 2oz by Chris Wilson, from peg two, where he used caster and maggot over pellets for quality ide, orfe and tench.

The best of the rest were Andy Hampson 34lb 5oz, Phil Eastwood 33lb 9oz and Dave Ward 29lb 2oz.

Steve Bowyer won the Sunday contest at Carpvale. He fished from peg 49, the same one from which Dave Wright made an epic haul two weeks ago. This time, though, there were only a dozen fish for Bowyer.

Pole fishing meat tight against both sets of islands he won with 47lb 8oz.

Paul Jackson, fishing from peg 43, was runner-up with 35lb 4oz. He alternated pole with corn and bread close to the the reeds, where he tempted eight carp.

Other leading contenders were Bernard Guy with 29lb 8oz, Gordon Watson 28lb 10oz and Gary Broadley with 27lb 6oz.

The Bank Holiday Monday match was even better, the top ten all bagging 30lb or more of fighting fit carp.

Dave Maddison led from peg 47 on the point where he pole fished to the two islands at 7 and 16 metres. He netted 11 carp, three tench, a crucian and a bream for his 51lb 7oz.

Peg two appeared in the frame again, with Steve Howard netting an all carp 45-8-0. Some fish fell to floaters fished at 11 metres into open water. The remainder were lured out of the near side bush on Sweetcorn.

Others weights included: Andy Dargue 44lb 8oz, Stuart Wilson 33lb 12oz and Paul Clarke 32lb 10oz.
