Bubwith and Yapham continue at the head of the Foss Evening Cricket League after recording victories over Wheldrake and Heworth.

The former had a comprehensive nine wicket win with Neil Pratt (5 for 15) and Charlie Cameron (4 for 4) shooting out newly-promoted Wheldrake for 40. Brian Last (21no) and Jeremy Hanley (18no) had little problem in securing another two points.

Steve Addison (36), Paul Barnes (32) and Paul Clarke (21) were the main contributors in Yapham's total of 125 for six. In reply Simon Winterburn with an invaluable 72 led Heworth close to their target but Angus Scott (2 for 36) and Paul Barnes (2 for 12) just wrapped victory up for Yapham.

Woodhouse Grange had little problems in securing a seven wicket victory over Wilberfoss. Philip Stothard (24) and Geoff Room (15) took the visitors to 73 for three with Mick Childe taking 3 for 17, all three wickets falling in one over. Jonathan Bean (31no), David Langton (22) and Steve Burdett (21no) eased Woodhouse past their target.

At Pocklington, 398 runs followed where visitors Aldby Park rattled up a formidable 166 for five with James Postill dominating with a superb 87. The Pocklington openers made a valiant effort in reply with Richmond Bower making a sparkling 90 and Ted Donkin 34 as they shared an unbeaten opening partnership of 132.

In division two previously unbeaten Melbourne struggled to 66 against slow left armers Martin Swann (5 for 8) and Richard Simpson (2-12). Simon Dodd, unbeaten on 29, and Ian Hodson (23) saw Londesborough Park to their second victory of the season.

Middleton put up a much improved performance in disposing of Stamford Bridge by six wickets.

Mark Beckett (35) and Steve Wilson (22) were responsible for Stamford Bridge reaching 100 for eight. Beckett then claimed two for 39 but the experienced Roger Maltas, unbeaten on 40, well supported by Bill Pethick (23) and Clive Owen (22) saw Middleton to their target.
