Yorkshire and England bowler Chris Silverwood has joined thisisyork and the Evening Press.

He has joined your award-winning newspaper as a cricket columnist.

Each Friday he'll give the low-down on all the latest Yorkshire gossip as well as provide his views on the county and Test scene.

His first column, called 'Quick Silvers' starts this week and is something all cricket fans can't afford to miss.

'Quick Silvers' is certainly an appropriate title as regular Yorkshire observers believe the Pontefract-born seamer produced the quickest spell of any bowler this season in his five wicket haul which saw Yorkshire power to the top of the crickinfo County Championship division one.

Following on from his career-best 70 with the bat against Essex, Silverwood is a man at the top of his form.

If he continues at this rate it won't be long before the 26-year-old is knocking on England's door again.

He's played in five Test matches and it was only two years ago that he took five for 91 against South Africa in Cape Town. He's also toured West Indies, New Zealand and Zimbabwe.

Silverwood made his Yorkshire debut in 1993 and was awarded his county cap at Scarborough in September 1996, the same year he was named Young Cricketer of the Year.
