Alan Whiteley, from Sherburn-in-Elmet, bought a 16ft-long camouflaged armoured vehicle to drive his army-mad son Sam, 11, round town.
The Ferret Tank, which was built in 1959 and has been used in battles all over the world, can reach speeds of up to 60 mph and has a disarmed mounted Browning gun attached to the front.
Alan, 51, who runs a sheet-metal business in Sherburn-in-Elmet, bought the vehicle for £4,000 from said: "It's my pride and joy - my son Sam loves it. We've always been interested in army memorabilia and I was after a tank for ages.
"We go all over the place in it during weekends and get some really funny looks. It always generates a lot of interest.
"I'm now looking for something a bit bigger."
