Yorkshire stepped out at Swansea today as CricInfo Championship leaders, courtesy of Essex who stopped Surrey from taking over the top spot by holding them to a surprise draw at The Oval on Monday.
With two wins from four matches, Yorkshire are seven points clear of the field - and they also enjoy a game in hand over second-placed Surrey.
Yorkshire have every chance of increasing their lead by beating lowly Glamorgan, particularly as Surrey are without a Championship game in the latest batch of matches.
It is the first time that Yorkshire have visited Swansea since 1985 when they were involved in a memorable encounter on the St Helen's ground.
Matthew Maynard made his debut for Glamorgan and went to a maiden century in the most spectacular fashion by driving Phil Carrick for three consecutive sixes.
The champagne corks were soon popping in the home dressing room - even though Glamorgan had by then lost the match by 34 runs.
Yorkshire expected today to meet up with their former Bradford-born paceman Alex Wharf who left the club at the end of 1997 and then had two seasons with Nottinghamshire before moving on to Glamorgan.
Wharf made a sensational start to his Yorkshire career at Scarborough in 1994 when Brian Lara became his first victim in first class cricket.
