POCKLINGTON Rugby Union Club ended their season on a high note by winning both games on their mini-tour to the south of France.

They beat Perpignan University 35-25 in a ten-a-side game at Stade Roger Ramis, with five tries from Sam Allen and one each by Guy Hope and Paul Williams.

Pocklington then beat junior side Baby Nyns 38-7 in a full-scale game. Centre Marcus Wood went in under the posts for the opening try after a 50-yard burst by prop James Ward, Dan Clappison converting.

Skipper Mark Taylor surged over for Pocklington's second try to make it 12-0 and after half-time Allen linked with Wood to send Clappison under the posts for a converted try.

Pocklington rammed home their advantage when Rob Jackson tidied a loose ball on the flank, prop Perry Hardy battered in-field and flanker Paul Rhodes crossed for try number four.

Allen got his foot to a dropped ball and left the cover standing, Clappison converting the try. Second row Paul Williams carved his way through from 30 yards and Clappison added the conversion.

Pocklington's annual meeting and election of officers will he held at the clubhouse on Tuesday, 7.30pm start.
