Only one point denied York Acorn Running Club the women's first team prize in the Ackworth Mid-Summer 10km road race.

The efforts of Dawn Gibbs, impressive second overall and first over-45 position in 41min 40sec, with Acorn team-mates Joanne Simpson (46-14) and Suzanne Dale (47-1), were not quite enough to beat Rothwell Harriers women's team.

Ian Fisher (Otley AC) won the race in 31-21 and Spenborough's Kath Drake took the women's title in 40-09 out of a field of aabout 300 runners.

Other York Acorn times: Dave Paver 46-13, Jenna Davies 47-46, Aimee Collett 48-54 and Jackie Collett 53-30.

Nine York Acorn teams competed in the five x 2.6 mile Selby Road Relays.

Acorn men's 'A' team, of Paul Goble, Mike Raynes, Steve Simpson, C Mackey and, A Burton finished third in a total time of 1hr 08min 28sec, behind Knavesmire Harriers on 1-07-5. Kingston upon Hull won the team race in 1-06-34.

Acorn's veterans' team of Bob Duncan, P Logie, Andy Normandale, Jerry Barnes and John Dunston clocked 2hr 12min 55sec to finish second behind Doncaster and Stainforth's 1-09-50 and were eighth overall.

Askern and District's D Bond ran the fastest leg in 12min 33sec, with M Clarke (Knavesmire) running the women's fastest leg, in 15-37.

Acorn women's 'A' team of Julie Simpson, Dawn Gibbs, Suzanne Dale, Joanne Simpson and Aimee Collett were second in 1-24-48 and 17th overall. Knavesmire Harriers won the team title in 2hr 21 min 37sec.

Other Acorn team positions and times: men's 'B' team sixth 1-10-44, Veterans' 'B' team (men) fourth (13th overall) 1-20-23, men's 'C' team 18th 1-24-53, women's 'B' team 24th 1-29-31, women's 'C' team 27th 1-39-54, women's 'D' team 28 1-44-28.
