Huntington and Tadcaster schools dominated Acomb Hockey Club's fifth annual York schools seven-a-side tournament.

Tadcaster won the girls' section, while Huntington won the boys' and mixed sections.

Eight schools and about 120 children aged between 12 and 15 from the York area took part in games of eight minutes each.

The boys' section was keenly contested in a single league with six schools all playing four games.

Huntington looked strong and led the league while Bootham finished second after a splendid win over Tadcaster. Bootham finished on the same points as Manor but as they scored more goals they contested the final against Huntington.

The final saw Bootham fail to take the lead from a penalty and a fine strike by Chris Chandler in the sixth minute secured victory for Huntington.

Huntington and Tadcaster emerged the two best of the eight schools in the girls' section and comfortably reached the final.

Manor finished third just a single point ahead of three other schools.

Tadcaster lost to Huntington in the initial round robin game but gained revenge in the final which finished 0-0 but to Tadcaster's delight, following a cross from the right, Lucy Jones forced home a rebound off the goalkeeper to secure the title with a sudden death golden goal.

Huntington and Tadcaster emerged as the clear first two in the mixed league, with Barlby's win over Bootham securing them third place.

Tadcaster's 'keeper made some fine saves to keep Huntington out but in the seventh minute Jonathan Jenkin fired home from the edge of the area to clinch Huntington's victory.

Acomb club president, Ian Gladders, presented shields to the winning teams.

Acomb HC will host the tournament again next year on Wednesday, September 18. Schools wishing to take party should contact the club c/o The Green, Acomb, York.
