YORK Acorn under-14s continued their fine start to the season with a comfortable 40-8 home win over Crigglestone.

Acorn applied all the early pressure and got their rewards when Steven Mackley crossed for a brace of tries.

Poor defence allowed Crigglestone to stage a minor fightback before tries by Jason Smith and Thomas Mackley gave the hosts a 20-4 half-time lead.

Acorn then took control with tries through Matthew Nelson and joint men of the match Thomas Mackley and Jason Smith, the latter completing a hat-trick.

Lee Acaster and Thomas Mackley kicked two goals each.

Batley under-11s cut loose from what looked like being a defence dominated encounter to beat York Acorn under-11s 24-0.

Outstanding for Acorn were David Magson, Luke Watling, Toby Lunn and Ryan Richardson.

York Acorn under-13s produced another excellent showing to beat Oulton 50-21.

Acorn took the lead through prop Chris Richardson before Oulton levelled.

Acorn then turned possession into points through full-back Matthew Gray, who went on to score four tries, and Stephen Harper, following a great crossfield kick by scrum-half Joe Budd.

Oulton scored two tries and a field goal to go 13-12 ahead, but Acorn finished the half strongly when Budd combined with stand-off Wesley Potter to send Gray in for his second touchdown. Winger Scott Jackson converted.

The second half saw Acorn dominate, thanks to the attacking play of the half-backs and the defensive work by Dean Wardell, Mark Gover, Lee Spain, Karl Hutton and Budd.

Acorn ran in further tries through Stephen Harper, Potter, Budd, Karl Hutton and man of the match Gray (2). Jackson kicked four more goals.
